    The Sun not only produces ultraviolet radition but infrared. Which is what actually provides the warmth we feel within our bodies and on our faces. I've just ordered 2 that come with wall mounts and apparently have all of the current technolgy built in. ie... they switch on when you enter the room and have the usual thermostat and power settings. At around £270 each they ain't cheap, but over at least 10 years im definitely saving money and importanly... keeping warm.

    ££££ Homes lose the same amount of heat regardless of source, so as electricity costs 3.5 times gas per KWH bills will skyrocket without heat pump efficiency to compensate. And, again, individual radiator controls are available through systems like Tado and Honeywell smart TRVs.

    Electricity 3.5 to 4 TIMES the cost of gas per kWh. Heat losses per room and per property IDENTICAL regardless of heat source, so kWh used are the same. Several smart trv systems (thermostatic radiator valves) are available from manufacturers like TADO and Honeywell mean easy control of individual rooms and rads is possible for gas systems too. ALSO, hot water rads are often 1/2 to 1/3 price of fixed electric rads and the disruption of running mains cables and chasing through plaster and floorboards not that different to pipes. Check the specs and energy ratings, buy a smart plug and stand alone electric convection or fan heater and they'll do everything fixed electric rads do at a fraction of the price and without install damage to walls or floors.

  • @TJames
    @TJames 4 місяці тому

    Electricity used by rads typically 3-4 TIMES the price per kWh of gas. ALSO, as heat pumps move heat from outside air to inside the property they are 3-4 Times more efficient when installed correctly than electric rads. Heat loss in pipes is lost INSIDE your home and will conduct through floors, walls and ceilings and add to the warmth of the property. Heat lost to outside is the same for any heat source. WiFi controls for individual water rads are easily installed by a homeowner/renter and available from multiple manufacturers, eg Tado and Honeywell. Get your facts right. 😜

      Hi there, While the initial price of electricity is important to consider, electric radiators offer advantages that contribute to long-term savings. Precision thermostats, DIY-friendly installation, zero maintenance, and WiFi distance control enhance their cost-effectiveness. You're correct in saying that external smart controls can be purchased for other systems, but the key thing to know about smart electric radiators is that WiFi control is usually a built in feature and no external hubs or thermostats are required, so you don't have to worry about any extra costs there either. Electric radiators are also ideal for heating specific rooms separately from your main system or extending warmth to areas like conservatories without major modifications. Plus, as not everyone has access to gas or heat pumps, they provide a highly controllable and efficient alternative to storage heaters. Which, while cheaper to run, often fall short in maintaining warmth throughout the day. For these reasons and more it’s crucial to consider the broader picture when it comes to running and why electric is a more viable option for many. We delve deeper into the differences between electric heating and heat pumps in one of our more recent videos, knowing that different solutions work for different people. ua-cam.com/video/gVQfVMLCg68/v-deo.html Thanks The ERD Team

    A few things that are wrong with this video, at least outside of the UK. 1. Heat pumps have a coefficient of performance of 4:1 which means that they produce 4x the heat energy per kWh than simple resistive heating. 2. The costs to install here in Australia are half what you quote in the video. 3. Ours is a reverse cycle unit that acts to cool the house in summer and aside from cleaning the air filter there is no other maintenance required, and it's been in operation now for 16 years. 4. No matter what heating you are putting in, not also upgrading the insulation on your home is silly if you are looking to save money, and underfloor heating is the most efficient of all, especially if powered with a heat pump. 5. Hot water heat pumps are also a thing, meaning that you can reduce your electricity use for that as well. 6. The same controls and timers can be applied to heat pumps.

    • @ElectricRadiatorsDirect
      @ElectricRadiatorsDirect 4 місяці тому

      Hi there, Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us! It's interesting to hear perspectives from outside the UK, and you've brought up some really valid points. There's no denying how efficient heat pumps are, and it's fantastic to hear about the lower installation fees and reliability you've experienced in Australia. It's a bit of a different story in the UK though. Costs, urban density, climate, insulation levels and a lack of qualified installers present challenges for homeowners who are looking for low-carbon alternatives or are not connected to the gas network. Everyone’s circumstances are different though, which is why we always recommend people do their own research to see what works for them. Thanks The ERD Team

    Good effort at not totally bashing heat pumps. Obviously you don't sell them so this was always going to be an 'electric radiators are best' video. You might be right saying that a heat pump might cost up to 40% more than gas, but you didn't say how much electric radiators will cost more than that. Given a heat pump will be at least 250% efficient, versus maximum 100% for an electric radiator, the latter will cost at least the difference between gas unit cost per kwh and electricity - or approx 400% more than gas at today's prices. Funny, you didn't point that out. :D And for anyone who thinks infrared panels are the solution - only if you like to be warm on the side facing the panel and cold on the other. It's very much line-of-sight heating with virtually nothing off axis. They are a terrible idea that will promote cold spots and mould. At least with an electric rad, the whole room gets warm and with a heat pump, you'll be paying at least 2.5 times less in energy bills to heat your rooms, usually the difference is more like 3-4 times less.

    • @BenIsInSweden
      @BenIsInSweden 4 місяці тому

      There's also the pointing out of negatives for heat pumps that have an equivalent negative for electric radiators but not mentioning it. e.g. electric radiators would need wiring in properly if replacing a central heating system, so definitely some upheaval there. Stating about might be needing a 3-phase supply, which only really comes into effect when you have a heat loss of >16kW, which to handle that with electric radiators would need 70A dedicated to just the radiators. At least they didn't go with heat pumps don't work in cold weather.

      Hi there, Thanks for getting in touch. As experts in the electric heating industry, we always aim to educate as best we can. There are many layers to the heat pump vs electric heating debate and you raise some interesting points. We understand that choosing a heating solution entirely comes down to personal preference and the specific needs of a property. As always, we recommend everyone do their research to find the perfect system for their space. However, it’s worth noting that heat pumps aren’t always a viable option for some - whether due to space, costs or simply personal preference. When looking at installing an entirely new heating system, electric heaters come out at £3,000 - £4,000, plus they’re super easy to install and do not require yearly maintenance checks. Compare that to £7,000 - £35,000 that you could be paying for heat pumps as well as the huge disruption required should you need to retrofit, plus annual servicing costs and electric becomes a much more viable option for many. If you keep an eye out, we do have a video coming very soon comparing the running costs of different heating systems which may answer some of your questions. We also have tons of resources on our website addressing this very topic to help offer further guidance. Thanks The ERD Team

      @@BenIsInSweden Hi there! You're absolutely right, electric radiators would need a professional to hardwire if replacing an entire system - this is something we always recommend as it's an important part of the installation process. If you only need one or two radiators, many can be installed DIY. Installing a heat pump as an entirely new heating system requires fitting new piping, the heat pump itself as well as new and larger radiators or underfloor heating, plus annual servicing. While this may work for some, it might not be viable for all. We understand this comes down to personal preference and there are many pros to both systems, which is why we encourage everyone to do their research to find what works best for them. We hope this helps answer your question - we do have several other resources explaining installation for both systems on our UA-cam channel and our website, if you're looking for any further information. Hi there, You're absolutely correct! All electric heaters are 100% efficient at point of use, making them much more efficient than other systems such as gas, which see a lot of heat loss. What sets infrared heaters apart is that they don't rely on convection to keep you warm, which means heat isn't lost to air movement caused by draughts or open doors. Instead, they use radiant warmth which travels in a wave to heat you and surrounding objects directly. Ultimately, there's less wasted heat with infrared, which does help to make them that bit more efficient. Hope this clears things up. For any further questions, don't hesitated to get in touch! I have had a natural gas heater since moving into this house 44 years ago. It is the original floor heater from 1942. It has never needed any maintenance whatsoever. It heats the entire house for less than the cost of heating a single bedroom with an electric heater. Don't buy into the bullshit. Electricity is massively less efficient, massively more expensive, and massively less reliable. Electrical components are flimsy and break easily and often. And if there is a electrical outage, which are becoming increasingly more common, you're screwed.. As more and more misguided governments captured by special interests outlaw fossil fuels and mandate electric everything from home appliances to vehicles, the demand for electricity is skyrocketing and the price is too. When you put all your eggs into one flimsy basket, you are asking for disaster. Also, right now, most electricity is still being generated with fossil fuels at dirty oil and coal power plant, so you aren't really doing anything for the environment. You are actually increasing net energy waste by going through the extra inefficient step of converting fossil fuels to electricity as an energy transfer medium rather than using the fossil fuels directly. Of course, you people don't think critically and just believe the lies you are told. You are braindead greenwashed zombies. There is no hope for you or the world in your hands.

    f you're trying to heat a room, you should start by closing your windows and doors. If you dont, your heat will blow out with ALL heater types, increasing your electric bill. And convection heaters do not need any more power to heat the room. It's about exactly the same as a "conventional" heater. Convection heaters can have higher wattage, because they are more efficient at transferring the heat to the room, compared to a non-convection heater. This means that it will heat up the room faster, but after that, it wont use any more power than any other electric heater, assuming they are adjusted to keep the same temperature.

    • @ElectricRadiatorsDirect
      @ElectricRadiatorsDirect 6 місяців тому

      Hi there, It's true that any warmth supplied through convection will be disrupted through air movement, however, there are a number of electric heating solutions that do not rely solely on convection. Infrared panel heaters, for example, only use radiation to provide warmth, which means they completely bypass the air to warm people, objects and surfaces directly. As such, the warmth they produce cannot be blown away, making them more efficient than convection heaters. Similarly, electric radiators use a combination of convection and radiation - exactly the same as gas central heating - ensuring that you experience the quick heat up times you've mentioned as well as lasting and efficient warmth that isn’t lost easily to draughts. When it comes to comparing convection and radiant warmth, the latter is more efficient as there’s a lot less waste. However, we understand there are many benefits to both types and whichever option you choose entirely depends on the type of space you’re trying to heat. Keep an eye out on our UA-cam channel as we have an upcoming video targeting this exact topic in the coming weeks. Thanks The ERD Team

However, when it comes to safety, sometimes you can't put a price on it. Many of our radiators are DIY-friendly, so if you're only installing 1 or 2, you can indeed do it yourself, however, any more than this and we highly recommend ensuring that all precautions are taken.

    What if you want the heater off midnight to 9am, Comfort mode 9am to 5pm, Economy mode 5pm to 10pm and off 10pm to midnight? In other words does each hour have to be Comfort or Economy - what about an 'OFF' setting?

    If you don't mind spending £500 a month on electricity buy electric radiators.

    Very simple. Infrared panel heaters do not dry the air which leads to dehydration. As someone who works at home many hours on the computer, you don't want a heater that dries the air as you start getting headaches and congnitive function decreases. I've tried a humidifier and it does help a bit but not great. I bought an infrared heater and notice the difference. Houses and flats are not made for comfort but to make money, had to spend money on purifiers, humidifiers, heaters as was getting sick dry mouth, irritated throat etc.

    As someone that bought and has lived in a new-build, electric only property since 2007 and bought Thermaoil radiators from this company that I had to change halfway through the cold winter of 2022-23 then reinstalled Convector Heaters I can tell you this is BS. Do not be taken in by it. Electric is ridiculously expensive to run, the heaters of both kinds will use a lot of electricity even set a low temperatures that will not be enough to heat your home. With electric boilers say goodbye to instant hot water, long hot showers and baths will be a no go, plus to get electricity they have to burn fossil fuels! Really want to get back in to a gas fueled property!
